NEW DEVELOPMENTS FOR THE NETWORK
As of July 20th, 2006, the Better Care Network will have officially launched its web site. The site will house hundreds of documents and events related to children that lack adequate family care. Visit us at:

www.bettercarenetwork.org

From July 20th forward, the listserve (which currenly serves over 650 people) will continue sending out bi-weekly messages that alert members to new information on the web site.

The listserve will also be a way to share material that cannot be displayed via the web site, such as exclusive job poistings and sensative material not meant for a global audience. We hope that the web site and the listserve continue to be a resource to you. The Better Care Network only works if you send in comments and relevant documents and events.

All comments and questions can be sent to contact@bettercarenetwork.org

If you would like to submit a document or news item to be posted to the web site or listserve, please send a request to submit@bettercarenetwork.org

MISSION STATEMENT
The Better Care Network brings together organizations and individuals concerned with children without adequate family care. It is committed to:

Reducing instances of separation and abandonment of children;

Reuniting children outside family care with their families, wherever possible and appropriate;

Increasing, strengthening and supporting family and community based care options for children who cannot be cared for by their parents;

Establishing international and national standards for all forms of care for children without adequate family care and mechanisms for ensuring compliance;

Ensuring that residential institutions are used in a very limited manner and only when appropriate.

The Better Care Network facilitates active information exchange and collaboration on these issues and advocates for technically sound policy and programmatic action on global, regional, and national levels.

The Better Care Network is guided by the UNCRC and the Stockholm Declaration.
