Bob -
If someone offers up a Viking KW transformer, be sure to find out if
it's an early model or later. Only the early examples have the same
small insulators as the KW-1 version. Later examples have much larger
types, and are so close to the side of the cabinet that they preclude
using the spark gap or the shorting bars. The studs are also much
larger, and won't allow the stock lugs to slide over.
#89 for a year with a later model transformer, it can be done by
removing the spark gap, shorting bars, and pinching the lugs between
the washers and nuts on the iron, but you're really rolling the dice
without those safeguards in place. I ran the audio pretty light on it
with corresponding reports.
I've been watching for one myself, it never hurts to have a spare.
They do show up from time to time, but not often. If anything surfaces
on my end, I'll let you know.
