Cleveland Public Theatre presents:

Pulp

By Patricia Kane

Music by Amy Warren and Andre Pluess, Lyrics by Patricia Kane

Directed by Scott Plate

Onstage now through December 22
James Levin Theatre

The critics are raving:

“Enormously entertaining and laugh-out-loud funny with a sobering message tucked between innuendo and ribald double entendres. Director Scott Plate skyrockets the fast-paced, 95-minute parody to cosmic heights with a quintet of sharp-shooting actors. Levity abounds in this sparkling comedy, regardless of one’s sexual proclivities.” – Fran Heller, Cleveland Jewish News

“An affectionate parodistic flashback…What is charming about the evening is not only its loving kidding of a gentler time, but its sweet, nonmilitant proclamation of a thoroughly innocent, if fanciful, lifestyle…You just yearn to ask the circulating waitress for "Another round of that, please." – James Damico, Free Times

“A sensational production by Cleveland Public Theatre.  Under the pitch-perfect direction of Scott Plate, the performers channel old movie stars and other camp sources to craft their characters…this Pulp has the juice: hilarious in many places, with everyone happily paired up at the end.”  -- Christine Howey, Cleveland Scene

CPT presents Pulp, a noir musical comedy takeoff of the lesbian pulp fiction of the 1930’s through 50’s.  Join the girls at “The Well,” a lesbian bar that features nightly cabaret jazz and drag kings. Set in the post WWII era of female malaise and ablaze with the punchy style of the pulp fiction genre, Pulp is a stylish, fast-paced 90 minute ride.  Love Barbara StanwyckStrangers on a Train, Lana Turner and Dashiell Hammett? Then get wrapped up in this comic homage full of intellect and passion.  It's sexy, sassy, clever and totally over the top!

Pulp received rave reviews after premiering at Chicago's About Face Theatre in 2003 and won the After Dark Awards for both Best New Work and Outstanding Production.
