THE GAMBLERS, by Russian master dramatist Nikolai Gogol, is written few years after his best known play GOVERNMENT INSPECTOR and is considered Gogol’s last play. It is a hilarious, fast-paced romp about a professional gambler traveling on a highly profitable con job. After stopping at a provincial inn where he believes that he is playing against local pinheads, he’s poised to pull off his perfect scam. Little does he know the kind of scorpions he’s dealing with. Gogol’s play is a brilliant study of the grotesque and the grotesquery of human avarice where the gambling room becomes a silhouette of the society at large. The play is adapted to the current time. This is the second installment of project “Masters of Russian Drama.” The first, SWAN SONG + CONFESSIONS, (featuring Dorothy and Reuben Silvers, and Terence Cranendonk; dir. Massoud Saidpour) played in the 2005–06 season. . Audition dates: By Appointment ONLY- Auditions will be held at the Cleveland Museum of Art
