The Kathleen Howland Theatre Premier Performance
The Kathleen Howland Theatre will present two plays: ?The Grouch? by Menander and ?The Haunted House? by Plautus as the first performance in the newly designed theater space on the lower lever of 2nd April galerie & Studios. The plays will be performed March 28th & 29th at 8:00pm; March 30th at 2:00pm and April 4th & 5th at 8:00pm. Tickets for the performances are $10.00 for adults and $5.00 with a student ID.
?The Grouch? is a comedy by Menander, a writer sometimes referred to
as ?The Shakespeare of Ancient Greece?. It tells the story of a mean old man and a young man?s attempt to marry his daughter. ?The Haunted House?, an Ancient Roman comedy, by Plautus the writer who inspired ?A Funny Thing Happened On The Way To The Forum?, is the story of a wealthy father who?s son has been persuaded by a clever slave to squander his money on wild parties while he is gone for three years. To keep the returning father from finding out, the slave makes him think the house is haunted.
Both plays are adapted and directed by Frank Motz, who produced and directed ?The Merry Wives Of Windsor? in Downtown Canton in 2007. Frank has been instrumental in developing the theater space at 2nd April galerie & Studios and has assembled a cast including Don Dixon, Mary Lou Ianni, Joe
Martuccio Don Jones, Janet McGregor Jones, Matt King and Leah Abel, among others. The theater space was named after the late Kathleen Howland who was a well known and respected local actress who appeared in over 100 community theater roles as well as television and film.
