A New-Vaudeville style variety show from two SAFMOD artists, Not Exactly DanceWorks presents the internationally acclaimed Juggling Show Spectacular Extravaganza of Object Manipulation Specialist Aaron Bonk in a unique performance featuring the enthralling movement artistry of special guest Sora Sol, Cleveland's premier Aerial Dancer. 

 

Experience the laughter and awe inspired by this dynamic duo in a stunning display of Juggling, Dance, Comedy and Aerial Acrobatics that will ignite your imagination and stimulate your senses.

Cleveland Public Theatre Executive Artistic Director Raymond Bobgan is proud to present DanceWorks 08.  Over the course of six weekends, the CPT campus is taken over by amazing dance performances from talented local artists.  Performances will occur in the Gordon Square Theatre, James Levin Theatre and Parish Hall.

GroundWorks Dancetheater

GroundWorks Dancetheater brings its annual performances of unexpected pleasures to CPT for the 9th year. GroundWorks presents new work by Artistic Associate Amy Miller, the Cleveland Premier of "Sweet" by GroundWorks Artistic Director David Shimotakahara, "Latitude" performed with live music by Hal Walker and "Several Truths Duet" by Gina Gibney.

 

Be sure to catch what Donald Rosenberg at the Plain Dealer recently described as the "smoldering brilliance" of Cleveland's own GroundWorks Dancetheater.

Inlet Dance Theatre

Inlet Dance Theatre returns to DanceWorks at Cleveland Public Theatre to perform a wide variety of works that are personal, regional, and global in content.  Repertory includes “Out of Nowhere,” a world premiere by tanztheatre choreographer Stephen Wynne and a remounting of choreographer Sally Wallace's award winning "Tides and Solitude." Inlet Artistic Director/Founder Bill Wade will remount his "Dream of Sleeping" and premiere two new works, including "Age of Isolation."

 

Additionally, Inlet will share four indigenous Rapa Nui (Easter Island) dances learned as part of an international artist exchange with choreographer Akahanga Rapu Tuki.

Tikvah Company of Artists presents SEVEN

April 3 - April 6

James Levin Theatre

 

Motivated by themes of intrapersonal and interpersonal significance, Tikvah Artistic Director/Choreographer Linda Kahn intends to provoke thought and enhance hope with the well-crafted SEVEN. Conceived from seven verbs common to the human condition, Tikvah Company of Artists, an ensemble of dancers, actors and musicians, perform this integrated work of modern dance, narrative and poetic text with eclectic music including live voice/horn. The premiere of a solo to Carl Philipp Emanuel Bach's driving Solfegietto and Kahn's striking dance theater piece inspired by stories of renowned Holocaust survivors Gerda Weissman Klein and Renee Firestone are part of this engaging multi-artistic experience.

Double-Edge Dance presents Strike a Nerve/Strike a Chord

April 10 – April 13

James Levin Theatre

 

How do we get up the nerve? What strikes a chord? What nerves us?

 

An evening of solos and duets by Double-Edge Dance Artistic Director Kora Radella and guest choreographer Julie Brodie with music by Double-Edge Dance co-founder composer/saxophonist Ross Feller. Featured performers are Kimberly Karpanty (Director, Travesty Dance Group), Emily Lawrence (dance faculty at Kenyon College), Lisa K. Lock, Kora Radella and Chris Seibert (Actor, Education Director at CPT). The evening includes Seibert in a repertory piece that was performed at the 1990 Cleveland Performance Art Festival at CPT and Lisa K. Lock performing Scratching the Surface, a work Radella originally choreographed in Lock’s hometown of Basel, Switzerland.

MorrisonDance 

April 17 – April 20

James Levin Theatre

 

MorrisonDance serves up exciting new choreography by Artistic Director Sarah Morrison!

 

From waiting tables to eating pomegranates, the dancers will perform a delicious range of styles that are sure to delight and move you no matter your taste!  Dances include INUNDATION by Maree ReMalia and a special preview of MOLT, a new work by Antaeus Dance. MorrisonDance is known for presenting “unique moving art” (Cleveland Magazine) that is “inventive…mysterious…beautiful” (Plain Dealer).  Pull up a chair and get ready to be intrigued!
