Sylvia Music and Lyrics by Stephen Sondheim; Book by James Lapine

For reservations and group rates, contact the Kent State Stark Theatre Box Office at 330-244-3348, two weeks prior to each production, Monday through Friday from 1 to 5 p.m. www.stark.kent.edu

Usually, the story of two empty-nesters struggling to find themselves and each other, touched unexpectedly by an outside influence, wouldn’t make for much of a play.  Unless, of course, A.R. Gurney puts pen to paper and the play is Sylvia. Kate is an inner city English teacher with a growing career and Greg is a burned out stockbroker. Suddenly, they find their long marriage intruded upon by Sylvia, who wants very badly to be the new woman in Greg’s life. Sylvia is no buxom blond, though. This home wrecker is a cross between a labradore and a poodle, and Kate finds her life turned upside down by a shaggy dog which happens to be her husband’s new soul-mate.  www.stark.kent.edu

Cabaret presented by Stage Left Theatre Company

Grace Drake Center for the Arts, 222 S. Broadway St., Medina 44256  330.764.1999

Seating is limited; reservations are recommended! Presented by Stage Left Theatre Company in collaboration with Medina County Arts Foundation.  Director–Jennifer Dove   Musical Director– J.T. Buck    Choreographer- Megan Pitcher. Lighting Designer- Mike Sferro. For more information or directions, www.stagelefttheatrecompany.org.

Cabaret, Kander and Ebb's provocative masterpiece, is a sublimely dark look at the tawdry decadence of Weimar Germany's Berlin.  The story is of a young American writer who comes to Berlin just before the rise of Hitler and the Nazi Party. As he struggles to write, the young man finds himself drawn to the seedy netherworld of the legendary Kit Kat Klub, and to the club's star attraction, Sally Bowles. From the authentic 1930's Berlin club seating to its haunting, unforgettable music, Cabaret is divinely decadent entertainment at its best!”

7th annual Open Frame Student Film Festival

Malone College’s Johnson Center for Worship and the Fine Arts (chapel), 2600 Cleveland Ave. N.W. Canton 44709

The program is free and open to the public. Eight short films (total run time will not exceed two hours) written, directed, produced, edited, scored, and acted by students will be screened and receive awards from a jury of media professionals. Jurors include Kim Ann Pfau, shorts selection committee, Cleveland International Film Fest and the Canton Art Film Club; Dan Kane, entertainment editor, Canton Repository; Robb Hankins, Arts in Stark; Connie Collins, local filmmaker; and Seth Thomas, a 2005 Malone graduate and LAFSC alumnus currently working in Hollywood. They will be joined by a faculty member of the Los Angeles Film Studies Program (LAFSC). While these student films are primarily learning opportunities for students who desire to grow as story-tellers and creative vision-casters, Malone College proudly is opening up the festival for the first time for public viewing. Each of this year's films tells engaging stories or makes a unique point. Admission is free, and donations are accepted.

The purpose of the Open Frame Festival is to allow students to work together developing their vision, craft, and voice. The film festival is an event co-sponsored by the Communication Arts Department, Media Services, and the Student Activities Committee.  All of the films in the Open Frame are short films, varying in length from 2 to 17 minutes.  Each film was written, directed, and produced by Malone students. A brief awards ceremony will take place following the film screening.

The Open Frame Film Festival supplements Communication Arts Department curriculum by giving students an opportunity to enact skills taught in a broad range of courses and to develop qualities essential to personal and professional success.
