[NEohioPAL] Square Peg Promotions Arts Calendar 04.20.08

Hello! This edition of the Square Peg Promotions arts calendar includes color-coded entries for music concerts, theatre, dance, written and spoken word gatherings, and visual arts events happening in Stark County and several surrounding areas this week. Community events that defy categorization are included in bold, black font. (For the FREE, full version of this calendar with arts events through 2009, just email us at janelle@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx with “subscribe” in the subject line!)

Saturday brings us a delightful smorgasbord of local arts events, including (but by no means limited to…):, the new monthly party/exhibit for the Massillon community presented by Ananda Center and others, Art Displaced will feature the artworks of Scot Phillips and live music by local musicians, Acid Pros (www.theanandacenter.org); Art In One, the annual art show and concert at First Christian Church in North Canton, featuring visual & performing arts & music by all ages (editor’s note…at last week’s rehearsal, I experienced an honest-to-goodness drum/percussion circle comprised of 1- and 2-year olds…and they were GOOD!); the annual Hall of Fame Chorus concert (Plain Twp.); an ASL-interpreted performance of “Enchanted” at Weathervane (if any theatre in Stark is offering this service to this ever-increasing segment of people in our community, please let me know about it!); and a new, improvisational comedy  performance by Scared Scriptless (downtown Canton)—a wonderful way to turn $8 into an evening of side-splitting laughter while supporting local performance art.

Of course, Saturday seems a long way from now. Fortunately, we have dozens of live music & arts events to keep you occupied, cultured, sociable, educated and/or entertained!

Enjoy!--Janelle

Sister Agnes claims to have no memory of the conception or the birth so a psychiatrist is appointed by the court to determine whether Sister Agnes is fit to stand trial for the murder of the baby. The mystery of it all is that the nuns lead a sequestered life and so it seems there are no men who could possibly have been the father. Cabaret presented by Stage Left Theatre Company

Grace Drake Center for the Arts, 222 S. Broadway St., Medina 44256  330.764.1999

Buck    Choreographer- Megan Pitcher. Lighting Designer- Mike Sferro. For more information or directions, www.stagelefttheatrecompany.org.

Cabaret, Kander and Ebb's provocative masterpiece, is a sublimely dark look at the tawdry decadence of Weimar Germany's Berlin.  The story is of a young American writer who comes to Berlin just before the rise of Hitler and the Nazi Party. As he struggles to write, the young man finds himself drawn to the seedy netherworld of the legendary Kit Kat Klub, and to the club's star attraction, Sally Bowles. From the authentic 1930's Berlin club seating to its haunting, unforgettable music, Cabaret is divinely decadent entertainment at its best!”

This spectacular film shows the state of the world’s fresh water and its affect on people, which is becoming more aggravated by population growth and climate change and compromises the future of all life on the planet. It also raises the essential question about clean, safe water being a basic human right.
