Cleveland-Based Film to Premiere at Ohio Independent Film Festival

May 5, 2008 – CLEVELAND.  “Everybody dies a little, every second of every day.  The trick is to make the dying count!”  “Kingsbury Run” makes it count.  "Kingsbury Run," a locally-produced film by Brian McCollum, makes its theatrical debut on May 8th ("Ohio Day") as part of this year's Ohio Independent Film Festival.  The movie will be shown at 8:00 p.m. and was shot at locations throughout the Greater Cleveland area, utilizing an all local cast and crew.  Music from local bands such as Vanity Crash, 15 60 75 (The Numbers Band) is featured throughout the film.

McCollum, who wrote, directed and edited the film (co-produced with his wife, local actress Nina Angeloff McCollum), began working on the script years ago.  Part documentary and part fictional story, the movie unflinchingly explores the true story of the historic, unsolved Kingsbury Run Murders.  In Cleveland in the 1930s, the infamous “Torso Killer” claimed 13 victims by decapitation, leaving the dismembered bodies in an area of town called Kingsbury Run.  The killer’s story is explored through actual crime scene and forensic photos from the period, combined with expert testimony by professionals who had the opportunity to review and comment on authentic files, documents and photos from this terrifying time in Cleveland’s history.

Serving as the framework for the movie, “Kingsbury Run” is the fictional story of Kid – a young filmmaker struggling to find the truth about the Torso Killer; his methods and his motives.  As part of his obsessive investigation, he befriends Man - a mysterious figure who seems eerily familiar with the intricacies of the murderer and his victims.  When new victims begin turning up, Kid’s journey takes a sudden, personal and very dangerous turn.  The movie follows his earnest quest for the truth, all the way to his final, brutal revelation.  The film is not rated but includes violence, strong language and some nudity.

McCollum is a graduate of the department of TV/Video Production at  Heidelberg College (B.A.) and his wife Nina received her B.A. in Theatre from Kent State University.
