What's this show about? Urinetown is set in a city where water has been scarce for twenty years. The 'Urine Good Company', a malicious corporation under the direction of the evil Caldwell B. Cladwell, charges citizens exorbitant rates for the use of 'public amenities'... the only legal place to answer nature's call. When a young latrine worker named Bobby Strong decides to lead a rebellion, he tangles not only with local law enforcement, but also with the affections of Mr. Cladwell's comely daughter, Hope.

But the plot is merely a vehicle for the writer's ruthless poking at Broadway itself, as well as greedy corporations and politicians. Never dabbling in 'potty humor', the show instead aims for high satire and campy melodrama, with plenty of winks and nudges to the audience. This is, most certainly, a 'musical lover's musical'.

The Chagrin Valley Times' Herb Hammer says:

"The inventive director David Vosburgh has chosen an all-around terrific cast. They sing, they dance and create the looniest characters librettist Greg Kotis had in mind... The writers have done send-ups of a dozen or so old Broadway shows. Each is funnier than the last -- "Les Miserables," "Fiddler on the Roof," "West Side Story" and several others. Watch carefully. Some of them may slip by... an off-the-wall musical comedy you won't soon forget. "

CVLT was voted 'Best Community Theatre' by Cleveland Magazine Readers, and 'Best Theatre Group' on the Fox 8 HotList in 2007.

Chagrin Valley Little Theatre is generously funded by Cuyahoga County residents through Cuyahoga Arts and Culture and is supported by the Ohio Arts Council.
