RE: Museum "Packing and Crating" Department
Geri,
Good to hear from you. I won't be at AAM this year but hopefully in
Chicago. Melbourne is not like being in Kansas City and just hopping on
the plane. I didn't get my session proposal accepted this year so will
try again for Chicago.
Do you have a company web site and are you having a booth at AAM this
year?
Thanks for the information. We do the majority of packing here at the
NGV but what I am trying to offer is to have a focused dedicated staff
and not just doing the packing in conjunction with commercial
contractors. Most institutions here in this country deal with the
European model of art handling and hire the work done from the
commercial sector.
Regards,
Brent

Hey Brent, hope all is well with you. I'm looking to fill several
shipping expediters positions for my auction house clients. Anyone come
to mind?
Good salary and benefits in NYC. Will you be at AAM? Re travelling
exhibitions: I fold the costs for crating, labor (art handlers/packers)
into the loan fee. For couriers, I have the organizations taking the
exhibition agree to a per diem that must be available to them when they
arrive at the borrowing organization. For any additional labor needed
at the venue, I invoice them, payable within 10 days. Looking forward
to seeing you some day soon. Invite me to give a workshop on something!
All best, Geri

Importance: High
To All,
I am currently writing a "Business Plan" for introducing and staffing a
dedicated "In-House" Packing and Crating section within the National
Gallery of Victoria. I would appreciate hearing examples of how it works
at your institution and what is the current reporting structure.
The main issue that I need addressed is how different institutions
approach the "accounting requirements" for labour/materials costs in
regard to invoicing for and being reimbursed by borrowing institutions.
I am looking at case scenarios for both "outward loans" and "travelling
exhibitions".
Any comments either on-line or direct would be greatly appreciated.
