Hi, There is always going to be some variation in crating
methods. This is a given because art craters are often creative people who
like to develop their own styles and designs. Also, there are varieties of
materials that can be used in crate construction and many of them are equal in
quality. Museum Conservators often authorize which materials and
packing methods must be used and from my experience these instructions sometimes
vary between institutions. What is acceptable to one museum may not be ok for
another. It is always wise to ask an institution for a copy of their
specifications before doing the work. Or you can also discuss your
specifications so the institution can ok them. Best regards,

Yes, it is true that I am the fingers behind
PACIN. It makes asking questions on the list a little weird but this one
has been driving me crazy so I thought, what the heck. It seems no matter
how well my associate and I explain what kind of crate we want from the various
companies across the country, we always get some odd variation. So I
really appreciate the information you sent. May I be so bold to say that I
would welcome any article that you might want to post to the PACIN
website. As far as I know, the steering committee is still deciding
what they will do at AAM. The Autry never sends anyone so I probably won't
be going. Do you have any ideas?
Thanks again,
Andi
