Hello,
I am
pleased to be writing this letter to you. I have several things to tell you and
hope that you will share my enthusiasm about the news. PACIN is sponsoring a
booth at the upcoming AAM Conference in Chicago next month. Our booth number is
130 and it will be occupied by many of the Steering Committee members. We are
planning to have a small hand-out at the booth for you to fill out to make
suggestions about the future of your organization. I hope those of you attending
the conference will have an opportunity to stop by and say hello and maybe get a
little souvenir of your visit.
As the
Chair of PACIN, I have had the opportunity to work with many of the most
creative and knowledgeable people in the field of art shipping and packing. I am
constantly amazed at the solutions to shipping, packing, and installation
problems presented on our list serve and the way many of you participate in
helping others. After all, helping others in the museum and art shipping
business is the core of our mission. When looking at the questions that come
over the list serve, it?s easy to see that there can be many solutions to a
problem and many of you have to consider not just the needs of the object, but
how to accomplish your goals with a strained budget and little or no staff. I
would like to encourage all of you to use the list serve as often as you can.
Don?t be afraid to ask questions. I?ve been doing this long enough to know that
I don?t have all of the answers to every situation that comes up. Artists today
are using new materials to make their art, creating more storage, packing, and
shipping problems every day. Archival products are being created every year,
forcing us to reconsider our older ways of doing things. Sharing new information
on the list serve is one way we can all keep up with these changes.
We
have recently reached a milestone in our membership. Our members now number over
200. This number reflects members from all over the United States, as well as
members from Europe, Australia, South and North America, and Asia. And the list
goes on. The members also reflect both individual as well as corporate
memberships. A big thanks to all of you for supporting PACIN and I hope to see
you at the conference next month.
