RE: Oz Clips

Hi Betsy. To explain. Four 1 x 6 boards are nailed together to make a box without a back or front. Since this assembly would not be very strong and because you need a flat plane on which to attach the Oz Clips, you will need to frame in the back of the 1 x 6 assembly using 1 x 12 boards. Depending on the size of the travel frame you may also need to add cross braces. I tried to show this in my illustration. These backing boards can cross each other as long as the painting ends up sitting on a flat surface. You attach the Oz clips on the outer edges of the painting 6 - 10" down from the top and the same up from the bottom. 4 Oz clips. You lay the travel frame on a flat surface and lay the painting inside. You open out the Oz clips and mark the holes on the travel frame where you will install the threaded bolts. Remove the painting and drill out the holes. Insert "T" nuts and screw in the bolts. Lay the painting down again so that the Oz Clips fit over the bolts. Attach the painting to the travel frame using lock nuts. Stand the travel frame up and wrap it in poly. Done.  The inside dimensions of the travel frame should be 6 inches wider than the painting dimensions so your hand can reach the bolts. The height only needs a couple of extra inside inches. Best regards, Bryan

Hello again-

I found a fax from you in my mailbox this morning. Much appreciated, but I have one question. Are the 1 x 12 Pine boards attached to the 1 x 6 exterior pine boards at the face of them or in the center of them? The center makes the most sense but the drawing appears to indicate that the painting is on the back face of the outer frame.
