RE: preparators conference

Brent and Bruce,

The idea of a national or international preparators conference or workshop
is a good one and worth exploring. I could see a weekend convention coupled
with longer intensive training sessions ranging from packing and crating
issues to museum lighting, mount making and exhibit installation.

I would be interested in working to make this happen.

Best regards,

  Brent,
A follow up suggestion to a preparators conference. Since my
initial quiry last Februrary, very little response was generated. The
other idea would be to generate a skill bank via DVD instructional
library
under the umbrella of the AAM covering a wide range of topics related
to museum work, of particular interest to preparators or those
individuals seeking employment in this field. The DVD's could be
purchased through the AAM and address aspects of preparatorial work.
True enough, there is no substitute for " hands on" experience, but
barring a host of excuses/reasons for not having a conference, this
seems a most reasonable alternative.
                                                 regards,
                                                        Bruce Bundock
