During its 106 years, the Toledo Museum of Art has earned international respect and renown for its collection that spans cultures from the ancient world through the present.  Annually, more than 400,000 visitors encounter and engage with our collection, exhibitions, and programs in both our 1912 main building, reflecting the classical revival style, and our new Glass Pavilion, a transparent masterpiece of postmodern architecture. Linking the two buildings is an outdoor sculpture garden, which provides both an open-air art experience and a gathering place for the neighboring community.

 

As an Art Handler, you would be a member of the team responsible for:

 

the installation/deinstallation of art in all galleries, including temporary or special exhibition spaces;

 

crating and packing of works of at for shipment by fabricating customized crates;

 

exhibition preparation, including fabrication of exhibition furniture such as pedestals, platforms, and vitrines, building temporary walls, painting and lighting

 

Requires post-secondary coursework in art history or studio art, B.A. preferred, with a minimum of three years? experience as an Art Packer and mastry of related hand and power tools, with verifiable skills in rough carpentry, finished cabinetry work, mount-making, interpreting mechanical drawings and the effective use of archival materials. Requires individual with excellent interpersonal skills who works well in a team environment and can work from either rough sketches or detailed drawings and follow verbal instructions.  Full job description available on our website: www.toledomuseum.org.  This is a full time position with full benefits, requires willingness to work paid overtime.
