We will no longer use monofilament for
installing art works. It tends to fail over time. This is caused by stretching
and deterioration. We now use stainless steel cable of varying gauges –
depending on the weights of the objects being suspended. Bryan Cooke From: pacinlist-bounces@pacin.org

Behalf Of Smith, Barbara B. Does anyone know where to find information on the stability
of monofilament? We have an artifact suspended from monofilament in a display
case. It was installed there about 14 years ago. Will that monofilament
eventually fail/break even though it’s not exposed to sunlight or
extremes of temperature? In other words, should the monofilament be replaced
every ? years or not? Barbara Smith Preparator |
