Hi -
I just read yesterday that PR Newswire acquired US Newswire, so I think
the choice is gone there.
I agree that a targeted campaign, with an investment in Bacons, is
better for most news outreach. However, I've had great luck in the past
for consumer clients with distributing a fun photo on PR Newswire (cute
kids, furry animals or unusual shots have mass appeal!).
Compelling photos tend to get picked up as fillers in print media and
(with the right caption) are often more effective than an article
placement.

I've found US Newswire to be a better disseminator of press releases
than PR Newswire. I've used it not only for museum/arts purposes, but
when I worked environmental/animal advocacy positions.
However, for a small museum like Mercer whose reach is probably
local/regional, you'll have to balance the cost versus efficacy of using
a newswire.

For a public relations campaign for the Mercer Museum, we
would like to use the regular channels to put out our news releases, but
we were also thinking of using a wire service like PR Newswire. Has
anyone used a wire service before? Which wire service do you recommend?
Did you find it to be a useful tool to get out the word about your
museum? Is it cost effective?
Any help you could provide would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks.
