{Collins} Re: 30S1 Wiring for 230V

Brian:

The 30S-1 230 (240) volt connections continue to be an area of
confusion. There are many versions of the instruction manual but only the
later versions seem to provide a real clue to the wiring. By today's code
and to ensure safety, a 4-wire cord is required for operation on 230 (240)
volts. In my 9th Edition and 12th Edition manuals, the schematic diagram
implies a 4-wire cord connecting to TB201 and showing Red to Terminal 1,
White (Common Neutral) to Terminal 2, Black to Terminal 5, and Green to
Ground (which is further defined as the Ground Screw on side of Relay Shelf
near K202). But the schematic incorrectly shows Terminal 2 jumpered to
Terminal 3. For the 230 (240) volt configuration, only Terminals 3 and 4
should be jumpered.

The various manual editions also show wiring interconnections in Figure 1
(S-Line), Figure 2 (KWM-2) and Figure 3 (KWM-1). Only my 12th Edition
manual (15 March 1976) defines a 4-conductor AC cable but only for Figures
1 and 2. In all editions of my manuals, Figures 1 through 3 show only
Terminals 3 and 4 jumpered for the 230 9240) volt configuration and no
jumpering of Terminals 2 and 3.

For the described 4-conductor scheme to work, the voltage supply to the amp
must be 3-wire with ground (230 volts plus neutral and ground). I use a
twist-lock plug and receptacle.

Good luck with your amp.
