{Collins} Re: 30S1 Redux

Brian,

The easy way is drop the relay chassis is via the front and rear two
mounting screws, carefully twisting the unit out to the left and support it
on the 516F-2's mounting plate. Remove the two HV tubes/SS diodes and
anything else that's in the way. You may need to remove the shielded relay
cover and relay mounted just to the rear-left of the relay chassis. It's
mounted on the rear wall of the power supply.

The hard way is only recommended if you plan a full restoration [of the
entire 30S-1], or when all the 'chassis caps and other components need to be
replaced. For this, remove the front panel and start disconnecting the main
harness connections, working your way to the bottom of the power supply
cabinet. As the harness is pulled from the top RF section, remove the
terminal strip connections from under the RF chassis and unsolder the leads
along the rear power supply wall. The relay chassis and main harness can
then be removed as one piece. I have digital photos of the removal progress,
refurbishing, and re-install should you or anyone else wish to tackle the
job. A list of replacement parts and venders is also available.

Good luck, 73,
Stu, k2qde

relay deck from the 30S1. Failing an easy way, what would be the best way
to remove the deck. Also, the book calls for a 230 Volt 15 Amp supply to
run the beast, does anyone know how many amps the thing actually draws full
tilt? Thanks. Brian
