im not sure how HM handles this,  but you were on the right track....  the 
good idea is to mount the PTO on a fixed chassis with a large DISK that has 
index marks foe instance at each of the 360 degrees,  but as that works out, 
is too extensive,  if you take the end travel and then just index or 
register 20 degrees each side of the stop point, I think this will allow for 
ageing and sloppy work, then you can register the tracking and start to work 
out the calibration from end to end of the travel,  as well if you set your 
frequency counter up to read the starting and ending frequency,  then you 
can clearly tell what corrections will be required, another method is 
following this outline,  establish the end points, then divide and index the 
wheel at the center of the  frequency .. then you see just how much you're 
off .. it's easier to do than tell you .. but you get the idea ..  mac/mc
