{Collins} Re: 30L-1 connectors

My opinion, YMMV:

The short answer - use any length and type of 50-ohm coax that has sufficient power handling capability.

The long answer - If your manual specifies a 4' cable, it is one of the later units. Originally the manuals specified a 20.5 foot length of RG-58C. This design was in response to an intermodulation distortion products specification that Collins had to meet on the 30S-1 to sell them to the government. The design was later applied to the 30L-1 in error. I have a letter from Collins Technical Support written to the previous owner of my 30L-1 stating that the 20.5 foot length as specified by the manual that came with my 30L-1 was an inadvertent error and that the 4' length of cable was the new standard. So I don't believe there is a need to use any particular type or length of cable between the exciter and the 30L-1

Others here may have some light to shed on this issue.
