{Collins} Re: Home-Brew Solid-State 5R4 - 5U4

OK, I like learning new stuff... thanks.

It used to be common to put resistors and capacitors across diodes in
series. That is no longer true. The ARRL Handbook used to mention putting
resistors and capacitors across the diodes. Today, it states the contrary.
Not only are resistors not necessary, because of the avalanche
characteristics of newer diodes, it now says: "shunt resistors can actually
cause problems because they can produce a low impedance source of damaging
current in any diode that may have reached avalanche potential".
