Re: {Collins} Was there a Collins desk at the 1964 NY World's Fair?
John,
Here are some links I found. You may have already seen them. There is mention of 3 or 4 stations at the site in ARRL literature but the pictures only show Hallicrafters. One site below talks about a Collins station going to Texas.

"For many years the Fair's amateur radio station console was used by the American Radio Relay League. Later sold, in 2006 it was purchased by a Collins Radio collector in Texas."
I would think there is still someone either at or retired from the ARRL that might shed some light on this. They should have records regarding the transaction. I was unable (so far) to find my QSL from the fair. I did visit with my family. I would have been 14 or 15 and I was just licensed at that time as a novice.

>Both Peter and I were each told ours was the worlds fair desk, yet neither of us, nor the owner of the third desk, have ever seen a photo of such a desk at the fair. There seems to be a vacuum here.

>If anyone can shed any light on this, it would be appreciated. If a photo shows up, then perhaps we could study the wood grain and other marks to determine who might have this desk. The third owner told me he compared the grain in his desk with the Collins ad photos, and they are the same.

>Pete's desk was at ARRL, W1AW, at one time. Unknown for sure, where before. He purchased his on Ebay from a family member of a ham who bought it from ARRL, and before I found mine in Queens, New York. There was a prior unknown owner of mine other than the seller.

>There also was a desk at the Franklin Institute in Philadelphia at one time, but from the photos I have seen from there, it was configured somewhat different than mine or the other two I know about. It is said Art Collins donated the desk and equipment to the radio club there. That desk is long gone and the present members of the surviving club have no knowledge about it or where it might have gone. Franklin Institute closed the ham club exhibit there some years ago and the space has been re-purposed. (Too bad.)
