Re: {Collins} 51J-2 kilocycle dial

Hey John,

When you find a new kc dial, make sure you are using a #51 pilot bulb instead of a #47. The brown stain is probably the result of heat from a pilot bulb to close to the plastic dial.

I’m in the process of restoring a 51J-2 which is in very good condition – for the most part. However, the kilocycle dial has a brown stain on either side of the 0. This stain does not come off with alcohol on a Q-tip. Any suggestions about other solvents. It is rather difficult to remove the dial due to the tight space. The front knobs all used allen set screws rather than the bristol spline type. Is this dial also secured with allen screws? If the stain cannot be removed are replacement dials available?
